Why Sportsfun?
For the secondary school, Sportsfun provides:
- Responsible Leaders who can use their skills in different situations;
- Recognition in the local community;
- Stronger links between primary and secondary schools and community organisations;
- Potential for Leaders to take a more active role in the school and the community;
- Established work experience;
- Improved social interaction between Participants, Leaders, teaching staff and community;
- Pathways to future programs (e.g. Beginning Coaching General Principles, Intermediate Coaching General Principles, Introductory Officiating General Principles);
- Teaching/coaching resources to support the program;
- Content that satisfies certain teaching unit content, compulsory for PE Studies as required by the Curriculum Council; and
- Content that satisfies some criteria for TAFE Certificate II in Sport and Recreation.
For the primary school, Sportsfun provides:
- A worthwhile supervised activity;
- Increased opportunities for students to learn and develop modified sport skills;
- Improved social interaction between Participants, Leaders, teaching staff and community;
- Stronger links between primary and secondary schools and community organisations;
- Teaching/coaching resources to support the program;
- A valuable extension to the school’s Health and Physical Education program; and
- Content that satisfies part of the two hours of physical activity a week, required by the Department of Education and Training for primary school students.
For the Leaders, Sportsfun provides:
- An opportunity to develop responsibility with valuable leadership skills such as communication, organisation and decision-making;
- Improved personal and social skills such as confidence, self- esteem, friendships, teamwork and commitment;
- Exposure to ongoing training in the area of coaching to gain valuable practical experience;
- An opportunity to be introduced to new sports and skills;
- A positive attitude towards community service;
- Opportunities to meet new people;
- Intrinsic satisfaction of helping others;
- Recognition and exposure to future employment opportunities;
- Improved student/teacher relationships;
- Activities that foster a sense of community involvement;
- Pathways to future programs (e.g. Beginning Coaching General Principles Certificate, Intermediate Coaching General Principles, Introductory Officiating General Principles); and

For the Participants, Sportsfun provides:
- An opportunity to develop sports skills in a non-threatening and fun environment;
- An environment which builds Participants’ personal skills such as self-esteem and self-confidence;
- Exposure to positive role models;
- Improved fitness and motor skills;
- Recognition through a certificate of participation;
- Interaction with secondary school students;
- Increased opportunities for involvement at community level sport;
- Opportunities to experience sports they may not have tried before; and
- A link to the secondary school environment to assist the transition from primary to secondary school.
For the community organisations, Sportsfun provides:
- A positive image of the organisation to the community;
- The experience of effective teamwork; and
- The opportunity to develop and strengthen school/community links.
