The Sportsfun process
Identify Coordinator
- Either a Secondary or Primary Coordinator can set up a Sportsfun
program; and
- The ongoing maintenance of the program is the responsibility of all Coordinators.
It is vital that all Coordinators and their schools involved in the program
give full commitment.
Administration
- Leader Application Forms need to be completed by the Coordinator and
the Leaders and sent back to DSR;
- Order resources if required;
- Equipment (including
First Aid kit);
- Register of attendance
(Leaders and Participants);
- Operations Manual;
- Acknowledge general Risk Management procedures
Leader training
- Only Leaders participating in the Sportsfun program can coach in the
Sportsfun program. It is imperative that this rule be met to ensure the quality
of the program;
- Level 0 or Beginning Coaching General Principles and Introductory
Officiating General Principles can be completed;
- Possible training options are:
- During lunchtime;
- In school time;
- After school;
- At a specific camp;
- During a specific PE
period (assuming all Leaders are from the one class); and
- Incorporated into a
Health or PE course structure; or
- During community
recreation time.
Promotion/Recognition
- It is important to acknowledge the value the Leaders, Participants and
the program all make to the school and community. Ways of rewarding those
involved and enhancing school
and community awareness include:
- Contact with media;
- Certificates for
Leaders/Participants;
- Links with
community/clubs;
- Presentations;
- Writing letters of
thanks;
- Acknowledgment in
school newsletters;
- Presenting sport
leadership awards at appropriate meetings and awards nights;
- Providing letters of
reference for Leaders to use with potential employers; and
- Providing access to
coaching, sports administration, sports health and officiating courses.
