Combat sports are enjoying growth throughout Western Australia, with fight promotions featuring boxing, muaythai, MMA (mixed martial arts) and kickboxing bouts being held regularly in the metropolitan area.
Currently, these sports are regulated by the Professional
Combat Sports Act 1987 and the Professional Combat Sports
Regulations 2004, which are administered by the Professional Combat
Sports Commission (PCSC) of WA.
All contestants and industry participants (promoters, managers, trainers, referees, judges and others) are required to register with the PCSC on an annual basis, ensuring that professional contests within Western Australia are run to a high standard and that all participants are qualified and suitably experienced.
Promoters are required to have a full understanding of their obligations as outlined in the Permit Conditions and the Professional Combat Sports Act 1987. They must also apply for a Promotion Permit for every event they hold in Western Australia (which can be downloaded from the forms and fees page).
