Coaching in Sport and Recreation
Behind every good athlete,
there's bound to be a good coach. Coaches play a vital role in the physical and
emotional wellbeing of athletes, drawing on years of experience as an athlete,
in a mentoring role, or both.
Coaches have to be aware of the latest trends in
diet, training methods and motivation techniques.
The Department of Sport and
Recreation provides coaches with a wide range of resources, including training
clinics and access to the latest research, to ensure they can keep WA athletes
ahead of the pack.
Training for coaches
The Department of Sport and Recreation is committed to raising the
profile, expertise and experience of coaches in Western Australia.
Professional development opportunities for coaches are the cornerstone
of this process.
We have a comprehensive program to provide accredited training and
professional development opportunities for coaches at the community
level of sport through to the elite.

The Coaching Reference Panel will advise the Department of Sport and Recreation on strategies and policies to develop and support the role of sporting coaches in Western Australia.

The inaugural Coaches Awards Dinner will be held in May 2010 at the Duxton Hotel in Perth. The awards dinner will provide State Sporting Associations with the opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of their "Coach of the Year" and present other coaches with commendation certificates for their contribution to the sport in the area of coaching.
