  •  $13.68 million in funding allocated to sport and recreation organisations which included $10.7 million through the Sports Lotteries Account, $5.3 million was allocated to 86 state sporting associations and $705,000 to sport development in regional areas through the Sports Lotteries Account.
  • $18.7 million invested in capital upgrades to sport and recreation camps at Hillarys, Orange Grove, Woodman Point, Point Walter and Quaranup.
  • A total of $10.5 million was allocated to local governments and sporting organisations to build or upgrade community sporting and recreation facilities.
  • 18,704 people visited the department’s four metropolitan recreation camps and recorded a combined 89,638 participations an organised recreation program, which is a ten per cent increase on the previous year.
  • $308,000 was allocated to WA Netball, WA Cricket Association, TennisWest, WA Football Commission and WAIS to assist with state sporting facility planning.
  • The department initiated an extensive consultation process with key individuals across recreation, local government, fitness outdoor recreation and camps to develop a recreation reform strategy.
  • A total of $532,945 in grants from Lotterywest was allocated to trails development and maintenance through the annual Trails Funding Program.
  • Through the Country Sport Enrichment Scheme and Champions to the Regions Scheme the department provided $183,000 to help ten sporting associations to host 12 state and national level sporting events.
  • An additional 400 Sportsfun youth leaders were trained and registered throughout WA taking the total to above 2,300 leaders.
  • Sportsfun Across Generations, an extension of the Sportsfun program, trained 36 seniors to mentor young people during in-school physical education classes in six local government areas and the Active After-school Communities Program.
  • The department’s youth at risk adventure therapy program YiELD conducted three expeditions to the South West to help redirect the social and behavioural patterns of 30 young people.
  • $150,000 Smarter Than Smoking Country Sport Scholarship.
  • The department provided 13 officers throughout WA to support the Indigenous Sport Program.
  • A total of $65,000 in scholarships was allocated to ten promising coaches through the High Performance Coach Scholarship program to support and fast-track talented coaches who have the potential and aspiration to work at the elite end of sport.
  • Significant progress in the development of three sporting facilities following the State Government’s resumption of AK Reserve and Perry Lakes Stadium site.
  • Provided executive support to the Major Stadia Taskforce, appointed by Cabinet in August 2005. The taskforce delivered an interim report to the Government in June 2006.
  • Sport International WA, a unit of the department, facilitated sports exchanges and/or training opportunities with Malaysia, Singapore, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and Guandong Province in China.
